Nalini Malani, Can You Hear Me,

C-Mine Genk, October 2021- January 2022

Nalini Malani (b. 1946, Karachi, undivided India) is a pioneer of video art in India. Her work and social activism have been honoured with numerous retrospective exhibitions and at biennials around the world. Can You Hear Me? consists of 88 projected animations, made between 2017 and 2020. Hand-drawn images overlap with texts and sounds. In this installation, the violent death of a child in India triggers a flow of images and ideas that transcend national trauma to form an indictment of social injustices worldwide. Can You Hear Me? was organised by Whitechapel Gallery, London, in collaboration with C-mine, Genk. After London, Mumbai and Málaga, C-mine was the first location in Belgium to exhibit this moving installation.
